Sour Water Strippers
Sour water is commonly associated with refineries. It contains H2S and ammonia which must be removed to meet environmental regulations before the water is discharged to a pond or river. It is even possible to produce a high concentration H2S stream for recycling back to a sulfur plant and high quality ammonia for sale. Thus, although sour water is a nuisance stream, it can be monetized to a small extent.
Sour water is not usually as simple as it appears. It often contains heat stable salts (HSSs) which make stripping more difficult and sometimes caustic soda is used to decompose (or spring) the HSSs.
OGT | ProTreat® uses a strictly rate-based sour water stripper model and so is capable of easily dealing with all the nuances of stripping contaminants from sour water.
